What Ethical Tourism Looks Like Up Close

Trust Travels Here: The Promise Underneath Every Check-In

The most memorable journeys are not always defined by the view from the balcony or the design of the lobby. More often, they are shaped by something quieter: the feeling that a place is paying attention. In hospitality, that attention matters. Hotels are more than places to sleep between flights

Frequently asked questions

Tiwala certifies hotels through a structured, values-driven process that evaluates policies, practices, and on-the-ground operations to prevent the trafficking of people in situations of vulnerability within hospitality settings. Certification focuses on safety, accountability, and ethical standards that protect people and strengthen trust with travelers.

Hotels complete a capability assessment that reviews core policies, operational practices, and safeguards to prevent, detect, and respond to exploitation. Requirements are designed to be clear, achievable, and grounded in real-world hospitality operations—supporting progress, not perfection.
Tiwala Certification includes practical, built-in support—not just recognition. Hotels receive access to on-demand staff training modules, digital completion tracking, operational and policy templates, and visibility on the Tiwala platform to help communicate certification to guests. Additional custom training and consulting services are available as optional add-ons.

Certification timelines vary depending on hotel size, readiness, and existing practices. Most hotels complete the process within a few weeks, with guidance and support provided along the way to keep things moving efficiently.

The Ethical Assessment is Tiwala’s foundational evaluation tool. It helps hotels understand where they’re already meeting ethical standards and where there are opportunities to strengthen policies, training, and protections related to responsible tourism.
Tiwala’s standards are informed by global best practices, expert guidance, and lived experience in ethical tourism and trafficking prevention. They are reviewed regularly to remain relevant, practical, and aligned with evolving expectations across the hospitality industry.
